Chile Quake Didn’t Reduce Risk

Scientists believe that the 8.8 earthquake last year in Chile was not Chile's last. Geologist Stefano Lorito, feels that the risk is much higher than it was in last years earthquake. Scientists think that another earthquake will strike in an area weakened by a prior quake because of the damage and lack of stability in the same spot, making it an easier target. Ross Stein a geophysicist, says that even if the stress level is high in that area it does not mean the earthquake will happen right there, a quake could happen somewhere else. Chile is known for earthquakes and holds the record of the biggest earthquake. That quake was 9.5 on the richter scale and occurred along the coast of Chile in 1960. In the 2010 earthquake it killed more than 500 people but it seems like there is going to be more sadness and devestation in the future. For more info visit
